Doom of the Dark Delta

There is more sword & sorcery from a writer normally associated with a different genre. This time it is James Reasoner who is well known for westerns and some well regarded crime novels.

“Washed ashore on a jungle-choked island in the delta at the mouth of the great Jehannamun River, Jorras Trevayle has survived an attack by pirates only to find himself in a desperate race to rescue a beautiful young woman from the sinister plans of an evil sorcerer and save himself from becoming the prey of a Nloka Maccumba—one of the giant serpents raised by the inhabitants of this bizarre, perilous land.

DOOM OF THE DARK DELTA is the first novella in the Snakehaven series from bestselling author James Reasoner. Part sword and sorcery, part alternate history, and all action and adventure, it’s a thrilling tale that begins a saga of epic scope. And it all begins here in DOOM OF THE DARK DELTA! “

This is a novelette/novella length piece at 60 pages. I read it in one evening. Reasoner starts the action immediately with Jorras Trevayle washing up on an island from a sunken ship and then the action begins. Trevayle is not a super-barbarian but he is a man with a history as a mercenary and capable of violence.

This is mashed potatoes with hamburger gravy fiction. Doom of the Dark Delta will scratch that itch for some action filled, traditional sword & sorcery. I have been reading James Reasoner for 28 years. He was in the Robert E. Howard United Press Association when I was the Official Editor so he knows his way around sword & sorcery. I am even a character in one of his other novels (and I come to a bad end).

The Big 5 publishers ignore sword & sorcery fiction. Technology allows the small press and authors to bypass the gate keepers and provide fiction for those of us who like thrills and chills. More adventures of Jorras Trevayle are on the way.

James Reasoner always offers up something good. It’s amazing how many authors of s&s are self publishing and just how many good stories we readers are getting. No more fairies and trolls riding unicorns and hiding behind rainbows. No, it’s getting to the heroic adventure with blood and viscera painting the canvas.
