I have posted before on New Texture’s art books. Their latest is George Gross Covered. George Gross (1909-2003) was one of the premier cover artists for the men’s adventure magazines that flourished in the 1950s through the early 1970s.

Gross produced cover art for the pulp magazines, paperbacks, and many men’s adventure mags. David Saunders has a short biography of Gross. Mort Kunstler has a chapter remembering George Gross.

The rest of the book is incredible reproductions from men’s magazines. Many of the scenes are of men in combat with Nazis, primitive natives, and animals. Nothing say masculinity like a man in the tropics holding an M1911 pistol.
