The Hundred Worlds have withstood invasion by the relentless Hok for decades. The human worlds are strong, but the Hok have the resources of a thousand planets behind them, and their fleets attack in endless waves.
The long war has transformed the Hundred Worlds into heavily fortified star systems. Their economies are geared for military output, and they raise specialized soldiers to save our species. Assault Captain Derek Straker is one such man among many. Genetically sculpted to drive a mech-suit as if he wears a second skin, he must find a path to victory.
It’s a battle in which he’ll never admit defeat, but not even Straker knows the dark truth behind this titanic struggle. With Lieutenant Carla Engels piloting, Starship Liberator explores enemy territory in search of answers.
B.V. Larson and I are excited to see the announcement and are happy to be working with Castalia House for the hardcover and paperback versions of this military sci-fi adventure.
We’re thrilled to have this complete, full-length (500+ pages) novel published, the first in the Galactic Liberation series.
The next book’s working title is “Battleship Indomitable,” where the action grows to empire-spanning proportions. Don’t miss them both!
>It has mechs in it.
I’m sorely tempted despite my huge backlog.
Long time fan of both these authors here, and I’m pleased to say LIBERATOR is possibly the best thing either of them has written so far.
I’m about 70% through the book and it’s excellent. Has all the high quality military action you’d expect, but also a terrifically kinetic plot with lots of twists you won’t see coming and well written, highly entertaining characters (Zaxby in particular is inspired, I love that guy).
A lot of contemporary mil-SF is, let’s face it, generic, paint-by-numbers, yet-another-homage-to-Heinlein stuff. Not this book. Most of the story building blocks are well established genre tropes (with inspiration from BLAKE’S 7, ENDER’S GAME and, inevitably, STARSHIP TROOPERS). But they’re put together in a splendidly appealing way by two master craftsmen-storytellers at the peak of their powers.
The result is a story that feels fun, fresh, and hugely satisfying.
A must read.
